As violence continues to ravage Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon, it has led to a global call for concern. The United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs has reacted to the situation in the NW and SW by demanding that both the government and separatist “stop violence and start talking”.
The Ambassador took to his twitter account on Monday, may 18, 2020 and said the killings of innocent civilians by both parties are uncalled-for. He cited incidents like the Ngarbuh massacre by government forces and the killing of the mayor by separatist fighters. He urged the government to follow up investigations on the Ngarbuh massacre and other incidents of that nature. “Government killing of civilians in Cameroon is inexcusable. I urge the follow-through on Ngarbuh investigation and many other incidents of this nature. I also condemn separatist attacks on local officials such as the murder of the mayor. Stop violence, start talking.”
