The president of Cameroon recently passed an order for a Reconstruction Plan, to be established in the crisis hit Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon. This plan is particularly focused on rehabilitation and development of basic infrastructure, economic revitalization and the promotion of social cohesion.
After the plan was announced, separatist fighters took to social media and warned that they cannot accept such projects because to them, it is coming from a foreign government in Yaoundé. These fighters reacted byattacking military posts and burning down more infrastructure like local council offices and schools in Bui, Donga Mantung and Ngonkentunjia in the Northwest Region. Same attacks were reported in Lebialem and Manyu in the South West Region.
According to a military release, there was heavy fighting in Vevoki, Tatum and Mbiame in the Northwest and kumba in the Southwest, leading to the death of 13 separatist fighters, even though the Separatist Fighters claimed on social media that casualties were more on the side of the military.
These attacks have forced many to come to the conclusion that the Reconstruction Plan can only come to effect only if peace returns to the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. Many citizensespecially the internally displaced are very skeptical about the reconstruction plan, especially with the determination of these Separatists Fighters who have proven to be ruthlessly determined, in obtaining their objectives in Cameroon,
