Cameroon Military Demolish Separatists Camps in the Northwest

The Northwest Region of  Cameroon has recently  been plagued by constant raids from both Separatists fighters and the Military. It has left many residents leaving in constant fear of what will become of their lives. Recent military raids have allegedly claim lives of many as well as “Amba” terrorism

Cameroon military is reported to have demolished the camps of Separatists Fighters which have been reigning terror in Bafut Sub Division. Two Ambazonian generals are reported to have killed in this recent raid. Amongst them is “general” Alahji who created his base at Saddle Hill, a touristic site in Bafut Sub Division. The said general is said to have been responsible for the kidnapping and killing of students of P.S.S Nkwen in 2018 and also notorious for kidnapping politicians and business people in Bamenda for ransom. After the first kidnapped of students, he later kidnapped 80 students. Cameroon military authorities had to ban movement between sub divisions in order to rescue the students. General Aladji and his gang are reported to have seized many lands from villagers. Another terrorist, “general peace plant” was also neutralized in this military raid.

This raid was characterized by six-day field operations, where the State Defense and Security Forces attacked Separatist Camps from two fronts; Bafut and Mankon. It was led by Colonel Matian Charles Alain and it covered Bafut neighborhoods of  Mamka Nikong, Nsani, Agyati, Mamkwi amongst others.  Some 300 State Defense and Security Forces assembled from the 501 Air force base and Motorized Infantry Brigade  were also involved. Items were recovered like ammunition, motorcycles, a Fortuna Toyota SUV car, two horses, chain saw, and charms.

On Friday, 1 May, 2020, Brigadier General Nka Valere Commander of the 5th Joint Military Region and General Ekongwese Divine Commander of 5th Gendarmerie Region congratulated the soldiers who freed Saddle Hill Touristic Site which had been turned into a base by separatist fighters. Gen. Nka Valere said even though Bafut has been terrorized by Separatists Fighters, they (the military) will clean it and people will live a normal life. He added that the Defense and Security forces will keep on working to give peace and security to the North West Region. Col. Charles Alain said the military is out for the protection of the population and there will be many more operations to bring peace back to North West Region. Gen. Nka Valerie and Col. Alain Charles encouraged the defense and security forces to be professional, cautious and stay safe from the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Bafut has been one of the most constantly terrorized sub divisions in the North West Region. This had made many villagers to flee away from their villages in order to seek security in the bushes. Due to the outbreak COVID-19 pandemic, most villagers are now caught up between constant terrorism and the deadly killer virus.
