Domestic violence against the girls and women
The level at which domestic violence is increasing in Cameroon has got everyone concerned. In towns like Buea, Southwest Cameroon, young girls have been murdered in cold blood by their boyfriends undermining the trauma their parents could go through as a result of this recurrent incidents. Recently a man allegedly killed his girlfriend in her apartment after she had thrown a party to celebrate her promotion in her work place. The said young man reportedly called the girls’ parents to inform them that their daughter had gone missing only for them to find out that the boyfriend had beaten her to death the night of her party and kept the body in her house.
Rape irrespective of who and the age of a victim is punishable by the law. However, the rate at which minors are being abused by elderly men is alarming as mothers now fear for their little girls. The recent incident has just added to the flames that have been burning for it is still unclear why a man would kill his wife and abuse his 9 year-old for over two years. As many wait on the reaction of Cameroon’s Ministry of Women Empowerment and the family, others still ask what the ministry has done to curb rape and violence against the weaker sex.
