In the midst of the stiff battle between the Cameroonian people and the intransigent coronavirus, certain persons have taken to social media, advertising a drug (Kledavid), claimed to be produced by the Archishop of Douala Diocese, His Grace, Samuel Kleda. Already, majority of Cameroonians have fallen prey to this fake notice, as the information has been forwarded and circulated nationwide.
Just after some few months His Grace, Samuel Kleda reported to have found a treatment to the Coronavirus and promised doing more research on it; these unknown individuals have taken advantage of the Bishops pronouncement, spreading the drug which carries the Bishop’s name (Kledavid). speaking on May 17, on an interview on the national station, CRTV, the Bishop said the enemies of the church are purposely trying to circulate this poisonous substance and when they will be a damage, the population will accuse the Bishop whereas it is “a completely different thing entirely”. He noted.
The Archbishop urged the public to denounce the product circulating on social media called “kledavid”. The Bishop indicated “there are places where the real product is distributed, namely catholic hospitals under the health services of each diocese. I will find a name for my product when the time comes. That moment will be during the official presentation of the product to the whole world and it is not yet the case”.
Cameroon is still one of the countries in Africa most hit by the COVID-19 with about 2000 cases. The government of Cameroon recently has increased efforts in fighting this virus, with the donation of two million masks and some sanitary equipment’s nationwide. However, most localities in Cameroon are still to get use to proper hygiene and sanitation, wearing of mask and maintaining social distancing, making most denizens very vulnerable to the killer virus.
