On Friday 17, April 2020, the Fon’s Palace in Bambili, Mezam, Northwest Region of Cameroon came under attack from alleged heavily armed Ambazonian Fighters. Five bodies were discovered in the Bambili Palace. Reports say the dead bodies were identified to be some employees and royals on duty at the Fon’s Palace.

Open Sources say, the Ambazonian Commander controlling forces in the area had point accusing fingers at the Fon and his supporters for all the violence perpetrated by the military in Mezam. Also, the Fon had begun a Yaounde campaign calling on all Amba Fighters to lay down their weapons and surrender.

It has been realized that separatists’ fighters now target local authorities and officials.  Possibly because they are angry about the fact that, these people work with the military to fight them. “The chairman of the traditional council of Bambili community and his secretary were removed from their houses and their skulls shattered. We, some of the elites, are under threats made on phones and social media” Said Martin Tanjong, the Mayor of Tubah District in the Northwest Region of Cameroon.

Cameroon officials say alleged rebel fighters killed a deputy mayor in Ngwa district, North West for collaborating with authorities. They also attack many officials and kidnap some. “My delegation was attacked in about four places, on our visit to Mbengwi. The newly elected mayor was kidnapped” said Acha Rose, Minister of the Supreme State Office.

A government delegate representative, two generals and one delegate for national security visisted some soldiers wounded at the battle fronts in North West Region. The soldiers were shot at Mbengwi during a confrontation with Separatist Fighters and are receiving medical attention at a police medical center in Bamenda. One of the wounded soldiers said “I received a bullet on my leg”. Speaking during the visit, the visitors said they have come with a message from the Minister of Defense. They handed the sum of 50,000CFA to all the wounded soldiers.

Alleged separatist fighters on their part have taken to social media raining threats. They have sworn to deal with those they accuse of working with the French-speaking state to protest and bring an end to their rule.
